On #Juneteenth, we honor Black freedom, culture, joy, and resilience.
Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, enslaved people in Texas were not informed of their freedom until June 19, 1865. Since then, Black communities have carried Juneteenth forward through celebration, remembrance, and collective power. In 2021, Juneteenth became a federal holiday.
By honoring this history, we lay the groundwork for a feminist future that uplifts and embraces every person. Our feminist movement stands on the shoulders of Black women’s leadership and resilience throughout history. 🩷
